How to Have Safe & Enjoyable School Days
Part of Wayne UNC Health Care’s mission is to improve the health & wellness of our community. That begins by giving your children the healthy support they need.
Below, our School Health Team offers some safety tips you can share with your children as they head off to school.
Tips for Kindergartners & Grade-Schoolers
Complete a health assessment. North Carolina Law requires Health Assessments and updated immunizations for all children new to NC Public Schools in grades K-12. The Health Assessment is to be completed within 12 months before the first day of attending kindergarten. School principals are required by NC Law to send students home from school if they have not obtained their immunizations and physical examinations within 30 calendar days after the first day of enrolling/attending school. If your kindergartener has not had a physical exam since August 27, 2017, call now to schedule an appointment with your child’s doctor or the Health Department. This will avoid the fall rush and will prevent your child from being excluded from school.
Get to know your School Nurse. Through our school nurse program, Wayne UNC Health Care serves more than 18,000 students annually across 33 local schools promoting health through education, responding to emergencies and managing acute and chronic health needs throughout the school day.
