UNC Health Wayne Welcomes Commissioner Barbara Aycock and Dr. Joseph Democko to the Board of Directors
UNC Health Wayne is honored to announce the appointment of Commissioner Barbara Aycock and Dr. Joseph Democko to its Board of Directors. Their combined expertise, leadership, and dedication to community service will strengthen the hospital’s mission to provide quality healthcare close to home.
Commissioner Barbara Aycock
A lifelong resident of Wayne County, Commissioner Aycock brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the community. Currently serving as the District 1 Commissioner on the Wayne County Board of Commissioners since November 2020, she has more than 15 years of experience as a town administrator.
Her dedication to community development is evident through her involvement with various boards and commissions, including the Wayne County Development Alliance, Department of Social Services, and Travel & Tourism.
Commissioner Aycock’s educational achievements include:
- Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Mount Olive University
- Studies in Grant Administration and Public Management at East Carolina University
- Participation in the NC Rural Center REDI Program and UNC School of Government Finance Classes
Her appointment reflects her commitment to fostering growth and innovation in Wayne County.
Dr. Joseph Democko
UNC Health Wayne is equally proud to welcome Dr. Joseph Democko, a respected healthcare professional and community leader, to the Board of Directors.
Dr. Democko, widely known as “Dr. Joe,” holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1992. With additional certifications in Neuromuscular Reeducation and Whiplash and Brain Injury Traumatology, Dr. Democko brings specialized expertise in chiropractic care and rehabilitation.
Beyond his medical career, Dr. Democko has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public service. His tenure on the Wayne County Board of Education and his 2021 candidacy for the North Carolina State Senate underscore his dedication to improving healthcare access and advocating for the community.
