UNC Health Wayne Police Department Recognized Among Only 66 Healthcare Security Departments Worldwide

UNC Health Wayne is proud to announce that its Police Department has earned the prestigious Program of Distinction from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). This significant achievement places the department among an elite group—only 66 healthcare security departments worldwide currently hold this honor.

The IAHSS Program of Distinction recognizes healthcare security and safety departments that demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence through rigorous training and certification standards. To qualify, at least 70% of the department’s officers must hold current IAHSS certification at the basic, advanced, or supervisor level. In addition, the department’s director or administrative leader must be a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA).

Participation in this program encourages departments to pursue the highest levels of professional certification and highlights their dedication to maintaining the highest standards of safety, preparedness, and professionalism within healthcare environments.

The Program of Distinction is awarded specifically to the healthcare security department and is valid for two years before requiring renewal.
