Serving as Vice President of Clinical Operations and most recently as Vice President of Operations for the last 4 years, UNC Health Wayne is proud to announce Howard Whitfield as Chief Operating Officer (COO). 

Having 23 years of dedicated service, Howard has supported UNC Health Wayne in several capacities, including Director of Rehabilitation Services, Administrative Director of Rehab Services, and Administrative Director of Therapy and Post Acute Services.  Leveraging years of experience in the clinical setting and a master's degree in health care administration from Pfeiffer University, Howard seamlessly transitioned from direct patient care to administrative operations. His clinical experience has provided him with a unique perspective that centers patients and teammates in operational decisions. 

Howard has been instrumental in leading our organizational goals, overseeing facility projects, and enhancing operational efficiency. His leadership has been pivotal in driving improvements in patient care, fostering a collaborative environment, and ensuring the hospital’s growth and success.
